Decks

Are you considering adding some outdoor living space to your house? I'd love to talk you through the details of such a project and can provide a quick estimate if you fill out the form below (or click the button above). And check out my portfolio to see examples of my projects. Thanks!

Middle Tennessee offers unique challenges to the longevity of exterior wood structures, and detailed attention to moisture management is required for a safe and long lasting deck in this climate. Each deck build is unique and will require different moisture management techniques, but the following are standard practice for me: Posts are not buried in the ground but sit on concrete footers or deck blocks (for some ground level decks) with a minimum of 1" of standoff between wood and concrete. All cut ends of posts/beams/joists are treated with a copper preservative. Decking boards are spaced enough (usually 3/16") to allow water to pass through without being trapped between the boards. Flashing is added at the intersection of every deck and house to ensure that water is diverted away from the house.
